Psychedelics and peacebuilding
Can a psychedelic experience, followed by facilitated dialogue, help people in conflict understand each other? That was the question behind my master’s research at California State University, Dominguez Hills (2021).

The idea
Studies of classic psychedelics such as psilocybin consistently report lasting increases in connectedness: to oneself, to others and to the wider world. Mediation often stalls not because people disagree logically, but because they can’t yet feel what the other person feels. My research explores what happens when the two are brought together, with clear intention, preparation and support.
A five-stage model
01
Individual preparation
Psychoeducation, grounding practices and a personal intention.
02
Individual session
Each person explores their own patterns and defenses.
03
Group mediation
Sharing perspectives, finding root causes, setting a shared intention.
04
Group session
A shared experience built around that intention.
05
Group debrief
Insights are shared and the group decides whether to reach an agreement.
As part of the research, I interviewed three experienced plant-medicine practitioners in Peru about the model, drawing on my own years of work in retreat settings there.
Next
A pilot study
The next step is a small, carefully documented pilot study in a legal research setting, such as the Netherlands, with academic and clinical partners. If you’re a researcher or institution interested in collaborating, I’d love to hear from you.
Speaking
Invite me to speak
I speak about conflict, connection, and the science of psychedelics for peace, for conferences, universities, podcasts and community groups, in English, French, Spanish or Persian.
This page describes research and education. I do not provide psychedelic substances or psychedelic sessions.
